Life in fact is a dream, and one wakes up only when he or she dies. I have seen many cases where people were about to die because of an accident or a surgical operation. I have noticed that they "wake up" at that point only. The problem is they tend to continue " asleep" after the event is gone. People do not learn.
Life can be lived as it should be if certain matters are observed, and only if one knows that he/she is in a waiting place.
If we can realize this, all things in life will be viewed from a different angel. There will be no wars, no destruction, no greed, but construction and sharing with others. Your questoin and the people who answered are some what awake??
The problem with human beings is that they have forgotten the real meaning of life, and obviously would live it based of their " understanding". They come to know what it is only when they " wake up".

I have recently pondered just this question and realized that other than 3 things in my so called life right now, I would be thrilled to wake up and find a new reality preferrably better than the one I have now. It is almost a hopeful thought that teh now is just a dream and that there is a whole other reality waiting for me.
