Probably. And not only that they can use your internet connection to do anything from suck up your bandwidth to performing illegal actions via your connection. You definitely need to secure you wifi connection.

The problem with unsecured internet router, is that you allow anyone in vicinity to connect to your network. It allows people to get inside your network, see your shared directories and files, use your bandwidth.
Worse, if person has some hacking abilities, he/she can get on your computers and see personal files, monitor your network traffic and fish out user ids (and in some cases passwords).

Also keep in mind that simple WEP encryption would not protect your network against determined hacker for too long.

not at all. they would have to have access to either the log in the Wi-Fi router (which is why you should always change the default admin password) or be connected to the cable or dsl modem. simply connecting to your Wi-Fi network does not give users access to such information.

Only if they are very skilled users. I'm a network engineer and I would have to work very hard to actually see what my neighbors are seeing.

Go to your network and add a WEP, (group of letters and number) You can get this WEP from your modem.

1. WEP KEY(password)
2.Firewall
3.Intruder Alert Software
