I was there when both of these happened.
First was Pres. Kennedy getting shot on 11-22-63.
Next was man landing on the moon on 7-20-69. I wasn't really "there" but I saw it live on TV.

For me, as a former TV news cameraman, the two most memorable were;
a) The Khmer Rouge artillery attack of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in February 1974 where 196 people were killed and some 264 injured.
b) The "Hoddle Street Massacre" in Hoddle Street, Clifton Hill in Melbourne, Australia on 9 August 1987 Where 9 people were killed and six or eight others were wounded.
I can think of many news stories that happened, both that I covered or have heard about, and they include the Space Shuttle explosion and JFK being shot. The one that scared me the most was the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I will never forget 9-11. I know its cliche but as a US Soldier it really changed the way my life has gone. It is also for that same reason the single biggest day of my life.
The second one is a little harder. Not one stands out, but I Will say the hanging chad recounts of the 2000 presidential elections. That news event convinced me that the electoral college is obsolete.
