I dont think its possible, the last couple of weeks is when your baby grows the most so...I dont think that 40 is even a lot, my dads girlfriend gained 70 now I know that is a lot but her baby came out healthy as can be. I would just eat healthy lots of fruits and veggies and water and try to stay away from junk food and if you do that then I wouldnt worry if you do gain more weight. Good luck!

Wow, I am really surprised. I was always told that, not matter how much weight you gained in the early part of the pregnancy, you still must gain weight at the end. That's why they tell you to watch your weight in the 1st trimester, since you must gain weight later. I would really get a 2nd opinion. The baby is really going to be gaining weight now, and if you don't gain weight anymore, that means you actually have to lose weight to make up for what the baby is gaining.
Also, I don't think that 40 lbs for now is astronomical. If you continue to gain weight at 1 lb per week, by 40 weeks you will have gained 49 lbs total, which is more than recommended but still not outrageous.

your doctor is telling you this because you are going to have to lose all that weight after you give birth- trust me 40 pounds is not the baby about half went to you- a typical pregneancy only requires 200 more calories a day. A lot of first time moms make the mistake of eating and gaining a ton of weight the first time around. When I was prego I quit eating junk food and soda 100 percent and began working out everyday - the end result I was 2 sizes smaller after giving birth- pretty sweet

I am 24 weeks and 3 days and I have gained 17 pounds so far. My doctor keeps incourging me not to gain more than 30 but that only gives me 13 lbs left in the next 16 weeks so idk how that will go. But Good Luck and just remember you can always loose it after the baby is here.

No it's not possible, the baby will be putting on several pounds before he/she is born which will show up on the scale. They really don't want you to gain more than 35lbs though, because it puts you at a higher rate for complications, and is unhealthy for the baby. Just try to eat really healthy from here on out.

I gained 90 pounds with my first. It's your body not your doctors. If you gain more you'll be okay. Just bigger. As long as you are healthy don't worry. Maybe he is just concerned with you losing the weight after delivery. DO NOT STRESS ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT!!!! There are so many more things to do. Just make sure you eat healty and not too many brownie sundaes!! LOL!
BTW- I lost 70 pounds in 7 months on Weight Watchers, got pregnant again.,... gained 70 pounds... now I'm down 70 again in 8 months. You can do it too!!
Whoever gave me a thumbs down is stupid. What is there to not argee with. I got fat and lost the weight. And if the baby is healthy she can gain the weight as long as she is healthy.

Who cares what the doc says - He only tells you that because it is really hard to lose the baby weight. I gained almost 90lbs with my first and my doc really didn't care, he told me about it and I asked him why and that is the answer he gave me

you gained a lot, and that puts the baby and your health at risk for pre-eclampsia, diabetes, etc. watch what you eat, and try your best.
