My folks are living over there for the next six months as my mom is doing 'American victims of terror' trials.

What's going on? Lebanon is in an almost war with Hezbollah, who is funded by Syria to create terror in the Middle East. Hezbollah is a terrorist organization.

Hamas has taken control over Gaza, the southernmost part of Israel, next to the Egyptian border, and many Palestianians have fled through Israel to the West Bank, which borders Jerusalem.

Occasionally there are bombings committed by Palestinian suicide bombers in Israel, and those that are targeted by the bombers are civilians. Women, children, families at restaurants, commuters on the way to work. I remember when I was there working some years ago a suicide bomber blew up the Dolphinarium. It was a dance club for teenagers. It was a Friday night and a bunch of teenage girls were killed. I believe the oldest girl killed was 15 years old.

Sometimes Israel retaliates inside Gaza, mostly, and shells (bombs) what they believe are military targets inside of Gaza. Sometimes they miss and hit civilians. Sometimes Israel bulldozes the homes of a suicide bombers who killed people in Israel. Sometimes there's an all out ground offensive.

It's a really sad cycle. If Israel does nothing, the attacks against them continue. If Israel retaliates, the attacks continue.

The Palestinians are poor and hungry, and even though they receive a stipend for each of their family members from the Israeli government, it's still not enough.

Arafat had a chance to help his people in 1994 when he was given hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to establish the Palestinian Authority -- including money given by Israel. Instead of building an infrastructure that would create jobs, he built an arsenal, which kept the people poor, which made them brilliant candidates as suicide bombers because death is better than this, right?

It's all very sad. It's still a great place to visit and the people on all sides are cool, and most of them are cool with each other. It's the few rotten apples on both sides that make life unbearable for everyone else.

Ok.

1. Israel is the center of conflict because:
a. The Palestinians think that that sliver of land on the Mediterranean is theirs.
b. Lebanon is somewhat divided in its choice for friends. Terrorists and another side despise Israel, thus creating conflict.

Israel has the right to protect their God-given land. They are under constant threats (take Iran for instance) of being blown off the map. So taking the offensive saves them.
2. The Jews hold claim to the land known as Israel because it is their God-given right.
a. Terrorists won't allow this.
b. Other peoples won't allow this. (Given there are those who recognize the Jews as God's people and Israel as their land.)

So, it boils down to jealousy and Satan creating friction.

But if you don't watch the news or read the news then why would you get better information from asking this question in Yahoo! Answers, this bastion of objectivity?

No one can give you an answer in this forum. It's something you NEED to read about before you'll even begin to understand it.

Don't let others spoonfeed you information. That is how zombies are created.
