Someone I knew once complained about her Mum all the time and yet turned out just like her. Does this happen to people you know?

It happens all the time to people who swear "it will never happen to me"! In most cases, unless you come from a totally dysfunctional family, the values that we have that created our persona, came from our home life mostly. The proudest day off my life was the day I saw my dad (he's dead) in myself and the things I was saying and doing.

During my years of growing up, I argued and disliked what my father made me do. Now I see that I am the product of his values.

I think we complain most about the people we most resemble. Think about it. It's such a hard hard thing to take a look at yourself and admit you are a certain way. And when you are young..... it's almost impossible. So you complain almost to the point of sounding resentful. When in truth..... its as if you are merely trying to convince yourself that you are going to be "different"...... an individual...... your own person. WE try so so hard to rebel as we are finding our own selves. But so often, we genetically and environmentally find ourselves truly like our parents. Ohhhhhhh my mom made me terribly angry when I was growing up. Mostly because I knew she was right.... and I so wanted to be the one that was right. lol As someone else said, it took maturing and growing up to finally figure out just how awesome she had been! Now? Now I'm sooooooo glad I turned out to be like her. And I'm sure my girls just hit their pillows and call me every name in the book. And that's ok....... because I'm sure in the long run..... they'll figure it all out too. :)

There is someone I know that knows that I don't get along great with my mom and that the last thing I want is to be like her. When I am mad or getting on his nerves, he tells me I am just like my mom, which pisses me off.

I can see how sometimes I can be like my mom but personally I am more like my father.

Happens so much. I'm more like my Mom than I ever thought I would be. But, she's a great person too, just didn't realize it as much when I was younger.

My mom. When I was young she had us on lock down now but in the long run it was a good thing I'm more careful with and more aware of my kids when they are out and about

I look alot like her, but my temperment is like my dad. Oh, my mother and I are like sandpaper to each other. My parent's are divorced too. "You remind me of your father!" Yes, my mother attempted to insult me with that proclamation on many different occasions.
