I think many of today's young women lack the skills of a good hostess and wife. Finishing school could 'fill in the gaps'. A good girl will know her place and enjoy playing her part as a good wife - she only needs some good instruction.

"Know her place"? Are you sure you're from this century?

Women don't have a "place" and you can be a good wife and hostess without going to some finishing school.

And I'm assuming that since she has to play the part of a "good wife" you're saying she can't also be intelligent and have a job? Since that would take away from her time to cook and clean and otherwise be a in-home servant to her husband.

How very narrow-minded of you. -.-

I KNOW how to be a good hostess. It does not require being submissive and willingly accepting a lower status to a man. A good hostess is one who does the best he or she can to make sure the guests are comfortable. This does not require bending over backwards and being a slave. I wonder if there's such a thing as a finishing school that teaches men how to be grateful guests and husbands. Guests should humbly be appreciative of what their hosts offer because as it is, the hosts are going out of their way to make the guests comfortable. A guest should not treat his host like a servant but rather someone who's doing them an unrequired kindness. A good boy knows his place and enjoys playing his part as a good husband - he only needs some good instruction.

"Plating the part"??? The only 'part' a person has to 'play', is a living, breathing, free spirited, Independent, individual. 'Finishing school' robs a person of not only money, but their own brain and mind to use. So no, I think the world need less 'finishing schools' in existence. Because most females this day 'N' age, just need a parent to teach them right from wrong, and to bestow good morals unto them. Nothing else

I don't know if in todays society a finishing school is really necessary. I think more women want to go to college or university to obtain a diploma or a degree instead.

No, not necessarily. I think more parents, especially mothers, should take responsibility for teaching their daughters proper etiquette and how to be a good wife and mother. Seems more and more parents think that schools and the church are responsible for this....OR that it doesn't apply to girls of this generation anymore. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Most women do go to finishing schools, called colleges and universities, to finish their educational learning, then they get good, well-paying jobs so they can further to controdict you instead of being your little trophy Stepford wife.

Who said the old skills of "WIVING" are correct today ? Many feel that part of the responsibility is on the husband as well.

Yes but I blame the mothers for not teaching them better. I'm more shocked at the amount of younger woman that are unable to cook. I'm not talking homemade just a normal meal...

Not unless they want to go..since it is the year 2007 I think men need to learn to take care of themselves instead of having a woman do it for them...
