Is it Joe Morgan? He played in the National League from 63 to 65 (Spahn's last years) and the AL in 84 (Clemens rookie year).

Pete Rose
Whoever it was had to be around for Warren's last year and Roger's debut. Pete Rose was around that long, 1963-1986 (24 seasons).
I doubt it was Pete though so just a guess.
