A sports writer, someone who knows nothing about baseball. Example, Aramis Ramirez should have won the gold glove last year at 3rd base in the national league but was screwed out of it by sports writers.

It's NOT voted on by sportswriters - Gold Gloves are voted on by coaches and managers in the respective leagues. There are no stats-based criteria, other than qualifying at a position by playing a certain number of games. Other than that, the voting just comes down to who the managers/coaches played the best at their position.
My problem with the Gold Glove award is that it's based far too much on reputation, and not enough on performance. That's why you see so many undeserving winners.

Craig is the only enlightened respondent -- GGs are voted upon BY MANAGERS AND COACHES in their respective leagues, with the constraint that they cannot vote for players on their own team.
Stop blaming the writers for the mess that is the GGs; it is owned by the managers, coaches, and Rawlings as sponsor.

My guess would be fielding percentage, along with a low error total. How Rafael Palmeiro EVER got one boggles the mind, however.
