THE FIRST FEW DAYS
1. wait 3-5 days to hold the hamster. pet him on the 3rd day, hold him a bit on the 4th day and you can hold him as much as you want on the fifth day.
2. i cant sleep!!!! hamsters are nocturnal. so keep him in a place away from bedrooms.
3. can i have a friend over?? definately not! hamsters are solitairy!!!keep them away unless they are dwarf hamsters that have been together ever since they were born!(if you let them kill eachother, congats. you just wasted your money on"fun" if you do this, your a jerk.)
4. when your getting your hamster, the ones that hide in the corner arent healthy.
THE CAGE
1. if you have a dwarf hamster, dont get a cage with more than 2 levels. they may fall and break their backs
2. dont get the colored fluff bedding or pine bedding. these are toxic to hamsters.
SICKNESS
1. wet tail. this is a very serious disease. get them medicine right away!!!!!!
2. hamsters can catch colds too! they have colds if they have runny noses.
3. my teeth and nails are long! if there teeth and nails are too long, take them to the vet to get clipped.
4. i broke something!! they will normally break their backs. if they break their backs, then they might just have to live without using their hind legs(i know someone that has had a hamster that couldnt use it's hind legs before. really sad...)
MATING
1. is the girl in season?? the girl will be in season if her pee is cloudy. if she sees the male, she will stand still.
2. mating! wear gloves in case of fighting. this happened to me and i had a really really deep cut in my hand. when they will mate, they will sniff eachother. (if fighting breaks out, seperate immediatley.) when they mate, the girl will stand still. the boy will put his paws on her back and the mating will start. if the girl gets scared, she will get on her back and start squealing.
SHE'S A MOM!!!!
1. how long will this take??? tye gestitation period depnds.
syrian hamster- 16-18 days(if it has been more than eighteen days, she has phantom pregnancy.)
dwarfs- 18-26 days
2. what can i feed her?? feed her protein rich foods suc as cheese carrots, baby foods, regular hamster food and green leafy vegetables(NOT PARSLEY TOMATO POTATO BUDS AND SPINACH)
3. LEAVE HER ALONE leave her alone when she has her babies. she may leave the nest to get something but she'll come back.leave her alone with the babies(known as pups) alone for 2-3 weeks.
4. SHE'S A CANNIBAL?! there is a logical explanation for her eating her babies.
1. stressed out by loud noises
2. stressed out by male(remove him!!!)
3. the baby was deformed
4. she got stessed by you.
5. she felt that she couldnt take care of them all.

5. remove dead young.

DIRTY!!!
1. clean the cage once a week.
2. remove any stashes of food.
3. when you clean the cage, scrub it all down.
