cable, or dsl. downloads are much faster on cable. Cable also stays connected better. I think cost is about the same. I have cable at home, and dial up at work. I can not do much at work. I know folks who have DSL, and they are always disconnected.
You can also get phone service with cable.

I have and prefer DSL. I have had both and DSL is cheaper and faster where I am. It may be different in other places. Our Cable was over $50 our DSL is only $35 and is much faster. Plus with DSL we didn't have to sign a year contract.

It depends, if you have cable tv, i say cable; if not i say dsl. If you dont already have cable tv, then they have to install the cable and everything, and then they can charge a lot. If you want speed they are both fast, but i hear cable is faster. Cable is more expensive, but dsl may be slower.

I'll be honest, all my friends have cable and their service seems always slower and with lots of technical problems.... only some friends have a permanent and stable high speed internet....
I had the same question some years ago and I chose DSL.... wich goes fast, stable, etc... never had a problem... AND... the modem came free, instalation super easy....
cable instalacion has to make hols in the wall and drag a cable from the provider to the computer :S, the only advantage is that u can use it for both tv and computer....

Speed is proportional to cost.
AT&T Yahoo! DSL High Speed Internet Express Package
384 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps download speed
128 to 384 Kbps upload speed $14.99/ month
AT&T Yahoo! DSL High Speed Internet Pro Package
1.5 to 3.0 Mbps /384 to 512 Kbps $24.99 /month
AT&T Yahoo! DSL High Speed Internet Elite Package
3.0 to 6.0 Mbps/ 384 to 608 Kbps $34.99
Cable speeds are typically 4, 6, 8, 10, 16 Mbps download speed and 384 Kbps - 1 Mbps upload speed depending on the area. Cost is typically about $45/month.

Cable has the "better" ability to compress digital data and transmit more information at one time, where as DSL is a bit more primative. I would not worry though, engineers have made both effective methods of transferring information.
