You make a compelling argument John B. I'm sure those who share your political leanings must be proud to have you as their spokesman.

You are correct.

I was involved with the Carter administration in the early days of that administration.

This was during the first oil crisis.

There were plans to build over 1,000 nuclear reactors in the United States by the year 2,000.

There were also plans for research to develop much better batteries for electric cars.

The idea was to replace gasoline powered cars with electrics by the year 2000.

If we had stuck to the original plans we would now be able to drive electric cars instead of cars powered by gasoline.

The electricity would have been provided by nuclear power plants. The 1000 nuclear plants that were planned would have been more than enough to provide the electricity for all of the cars in America if they had been converted to electrics.

The Mullahs and the Ayatollahs of the Middle East would have been completely irrelevant by now.

Do people realize how little oil we get from the Middle East? It's tiny...
We get most of ours from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Africa.
They Libs. seem to love the French, and they use Nuclear power, why not us?
Ah, but then what would they whine about next...

Even if nuclear power had been whole-heartedly embraced in the 70s, instead of systematically stymied, oil would still be a strategic resource, today, and what happened in the middle east would still matter. It might not matter nearly as much to common citizens as they drive thier electric cars under the shadow of reactor containment buildings, but it'd still matter.

I recall all those images of those asinine protesters in the streets while Reagan was building our nuclear weapon arsenals to win the Cold War. Liberals do not understand that appeasement brings war.
