First because such beds are good habitat for bivalve mollusks, which are the starfishes' preferred food; And secondly, because the grass beds help anchor the starfishes in place. If they were on a flat sand bottom in shallow water, tidal currents would just sweep them up and either deposit them on the beach, or carry them into deep water.

Not all starfish live in seagrass beds. There are those that live on coral reefs, etc. They are as diverse as they come. The choice of habitat may be due to food preference and shelter. One starfish species I have seen living in seagrass beds (Archaster typicus) likes to hide in the substrate (get buried) and has similar color as the substrate.

i think starfish live in seagrass beds because it's the most beneficial home a starfish can live. just like a deer to a forest, where all its needs are there like food, water, sunlight, etc.

No starfish live on rock and use their suction cups to move. and to eat they open up their stomach from the outside and it kind of sucks it in.
