Pointy side up. Put three toothpicks into the side and suspend over a jar filled with water so that it covers the bottom half of the avocado. The seed will split after a few weeks, roots will form in the water and a cute plant will emerge from the crack! After it's leaves are established and it is above freezing out, you can plant it. I haven't done that in years!
