The same as knowning they are straight...

I don't care if my doctor is gay... just please save my life... or give me whatever med I need to help me on my way to recovery.

look at it this way...

Straight doctors tend to men and women... they also deal with the sex they are attracted to.

My husband had a gay doctor, and he was the best doc ever. (Not that being gay makes you a good doctor, of course. :)

But, no, I would have no preference, and my husband-- a straight man-- didn't have a problem about it either. He loved this doc. He was a very caring individual, and we were fully intending to use him for our daughter when she was born, rather than a pediatrician, but we moved. :(

Anyway, how will people know, especially in a trauma situation? I should think they'd be happy to see any doc (provided they were conscious).

Why do you need a GAY one. If its a private problem, you can ALWAYS discuss it with a normal doctor. Doctors are very professional: they deal with all kinds of problems, and are quite understanding. Try your own doctor and talk to him/her, and if you dont get a good response, try one of those gay group things .

i dont care. It TRULY doesnt matter to me. I am going to a doctor to receive care. The quality of that care does not depend on the doc's orientation, it depends on how well they paid attention to their instruction. And quite frankly, if i'm in to see you, as a trauma doc, i REALLY wouldn't care...if i'm there, i'm half dead probably, i wouldn't care who was tending to me as long as they had Doctor in front of their last name. I'm not male, but if my doc was a lesbian, i wouldn't even think twice about it. Actually now that i think about it---i think my gyno may be gay---and i've been seeing her for 16 years & she delivered my child. SOOOOO not an issue

if you behave as a professional, I don't care.

I think people expect any MD to be a professional doctor, period - patients are not looking for living, walking billboards of any topical issue, but like any professional relationship as it takes root, avenues to discuss personal attributes may develop on a person-by-person basis.

Is he a good doctor? That is all that matters to me. His sexuality or what kind of cheese he likes are of no concern.
