A ditzy bimbo who only acts strange. And yes, I'm aware of my spelling of ditzy.

She makes Luna come off as a ditzy bimbo who only acts strange, not the unique character that Luna is.

A bimbo is a tramp, she doesnt come across that way to me at all. When they first introduce Luna in the books she is equally strange, its once they get to know her that they realise she is special. But only Harry really understands her and I think appreciates her. Her nickname isnt Looney Lovegood for nothing. I liked her.

I actually think Luna in the movie is better than the book's version.

In the book, she's always depicted as being downright strange, eccentric, even possibly insane. Definitely not someone you'd normally want to be around. Despite all she does for Harry in the 5th book, she's still rather ostracized by Harry and the others - she's definitely not considered to be part of the main cluster around Harry. As I recall, Harry doesn't even properly thank her for her part in getting his story published in the Quibbler - which was a major turning point in the book.

However, in the movie, her strangeness is toned down a lot. She's definitely "different" than her classmates, but underneath is a very sweet and independent girl.

If anything, I found it odd that the movie seemed to be hinting that Luna was going to be a love interest for Harry. Then again, that would sort of make sense. Like Harry, she's lost a loved one, has had her own share of being bullied and not fitting in. In this way, she can certainly understand Harry better than most of the others. Yet she still has a bright outlook on life - something that Harry would definitely benefit from.

No, I don't think she portrays her that way. As you can tell from Book 7, her father is also strange. So Luna is supposed to be different. In movie 5, she has an airy voice and she is always polite even when the boys his her things.

I dont think the actress should be blamed. She did fine but the producers or whatever didnt give her enough script and airtime like they did in the book.

It would of been a great performance had there been more time to convey the characters personality.

actually I like her quite alot. Loony luna was not some manic crazy girl, she was quiely odd, and made people feel nervous and aquward. But she was always sweet too, and i think the actress conveyed it well.

That's a matter of opinion.
I think that she achieved the "far out there" quality of Luna fairly well.
