I just recently bought 2 sticks of 256mb ram. I have a dual processor. I was trying to upgrade from 512 (also 2 sticks of 256 ram) to a full 1gig. When I put in the new ram with the old, it did not work, so I took out the new sticks and only left the old ones in there... but now that won't work either!!!!

My computer seems to be turning on, but nothing is on the screen. The CD / DVD drive lights up, ect. Any ideas?

Be sure PC is unplugged. Try reseating them and make sure the notch is aligned to the key in the socket. Also try rearranging the RAM sticks. Put the old ones on the same color slot, then the new ones on the remaining slots.
You can test each stick one at a time on the slot closest to the processor.

I just ran into a similar problem. The new stick with the old stick wouldn't work. But separately they worked fine. Turns out my laptop WAS sensitive to high density and low density chips. Count the number of chips to see if they are the same,...front and back. Some PCs run fine with the mix, others cease to function. Crucial.com is a great web site to look for FAQ.

Possibly you fried something on your motherboard.
Did you ground yourself by either touching metal ,or by having an anti static wrist band on , for more protection against static electricity?

If not , is could be your problem , and your life just became a lot worse , since you can't fix a shot motherboard.
