In Deathly Hallows, how is Ariana driven insane? (spoilers included)?

all the evidence rowling provides suggests that the Muggle boys roughed her up but thats not good enough of an explanation to why she went insane

At age 6 poor Ariana Dumbledore was attacked by a group of Muggles who witnessed her preforming magic. The attack so traumatized her that she was never able to preform magic properly again and required constant care and supervision for the rest of her days. Because her parents were so afraid St, Mungo's would take her away from them for good, her father never explained why he went after the muggles and her mother moved the family away to Godric's Hollow where no one knew her. This lead to the belief that she was a squib.

Dumbledore's brother Aberforth (the barman of the Hog's Head) tells Harry, Hermione, and Ron that Ariana was attacked when she was 6 years old by three muggle boys who had been spying on her and saw her do a bit of unintentional magic. After the attack, Ariana wouldn't use magic, so it turned inward and drove her "mad".

That's why she performs magic at random times. Her father went after them to get revenge and was caught and sent to Azkaban.
