I want to write a book mostly along the lines of life, family, and human interest stories. Any ideas?

First, I recommend that you write the book. Neither a publisher nor an agent will talk to you about just an idea. It's a waste of their time.

Not all publishers refuse submissions from unagented writers. Small, independent publishers *will* accept manuscript submissions directly from writers, but you have to look for these publishers.

I recommend that you go to the public library and use reference books like the Literary Marketplace and the Writers Market to find agents and publishers alike.

If you can't find time to go to the library, then go to the Preditors&Editors website and research both there.

Never ever pay an agent or a publisher money. They earn their money from selling your work.

Good luck in your endeavors.

Most publishers will not look at unsolicited manuscripts. You will need to find an agent.

Info from Lawrence Watt-Evans, the author of the Ethshire series of novels.
