USED to be Mexico's land.. It's not their land anymore. That's why this nation is called The United States of America.

NOT Aztlan, NOT Mexico.

Should they be able to come to the U.S? Sure - after they file an application, earn their citizenship - learn english and some US history, and pass a background check. Anyone with a criminal background will not be permitted.

Just bring a case before the Supreme Court and those bozos will probably end up saying that yes, anyone does have a constitutional right to immigrate freely. Have you ever heard of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982)?

The state of Texas had created a law (May 1975) requiring that all children enrolled in the public schools be either U.S. citizens or legal immigrants -- prohibiting illegals. A little more than two years later a lawsuit was filed in Tyler, TX challenging the law as a violation of the 14th Amendment's guarantee of the equal protection of the laws. All three levels of the federal courts came to the same basic conclusion -- the law is unconstitutionally discriminatory. The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling was by a narrow margin, 5 to 4, with Justice Brennan writing the majority opinion, for himself and Justices Blackmun, Marshall, Powell, and Stevens. (In previous cases, Justices Blackmun and Powell had taken the view that the state may constitutionally ban legal immigrants from jobs as police officers (Foley v. Connelie, 435 U.S. 291 (1978)) and that getting an education is not a constitutionally guaranteed fundamental right (San Antonio Independent School District v. Rodriguez, 411 U.S. 1 (1973)).) My "favorite" (note the sarcasm) part of Brennan's opinion for the Court is, "It is difficult to understand precisely what the State hopes to achieve by promoting the creation and perpetuation of a subclass of illiterates within our boundaries, surely adding to the problems and costs of unemployment, welfare, and crime." What a swell job of understanding the motives of the Texas legislature.

Six years after the Plyler decision, Professor David P. Currie, writing a two-volume text called "The Constitution in the Supreme Court," had harsh words for this particular decision. He wrote, "With all due respect, this is carrying solicitude a little far. Public resources are scarce and those who have no business being here can have poor claim on them. I may have a right to keep a burglar out of my house, the Court appears to be saying, but once he is there I must invite him to dinner."

If CA, AZ, NM and TX were still part of Mexico, Mexicans in THOSE areas would be heading north because they'd be as bad as the rest of their country!

If those areas were somehow ceded back to Mexico, how long do you think before they would degenerate into the conditions prevalent in the rest of Mexico?

The thirteen original colonies USED to belong to the UK. Wanna give those back? Spain was controlled by the Muslims for 900 years. Think Madrid should say, "Gee, we acted unfairly. OK guys, come on back."

Mexicans who want to emigrate to the U.S. should be thankful the U.S. does not allow unfettered immigration, because our nation simply cannot absorb such a huge number of people, educate them, assimilate them, and instill in them the qualities that made the U.S. the greatest nation on earth.

The problem with Mexicans is not so much that they want to live in the U.S., it's that they want to bring Mexico with them.

Notice your language "used to be", which means they are not now! Also, you may want to check your facts on what Mexico really had and what Spain had and what the different wars and land sales between governments caused. Anyhow, NO, NO CITIZEN OF ONE COUNTRY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO FREELY IMMIGRATE TO OTHER COUNTRIES, WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE RECEIVING COUNTRY. Mexico gets really ticked if Americans are caught working in Mexico without the proper visas and permits, yet you think that law shouldn't apply the other way around? Who's the prejudiced one here?

After the Mexican American war which Mexico lost and subsequently gave up the land for cash, it became part of the US. We have since developed it well. Parts of New Mexico aren't developed but it still smells better than old Mexico. Once you sell a house, you can't come in and put your feet up on the new owner's coffee table.

Mexicans should be able to immigrate *LEGALLY* the same as anyone else. Whatever land Mexico used to own in the US was *ceded* by the Treaty of 1848, and it was *PAID FOR* in addition (which the US didn't have to do). Seriously, go read the document for yourself. In addition, anyone in the disputed territory had the choice to stay and become US citizens, or move to Mexico; and there was a period during which anyone from Mexico could move *into* the area and become a citizen. If your great-great-grandpapa didn't take advantage of it at the time, 'Lo siento' but now you have to follow the same rules as anyone else. Mexicans have no more right to enter by force and plop themselves down, than I have to move into Yorkshire and demand citizenship.

The United States used to belong to Native Americans, the came the Europeans, who killed and poisoned to get it. Then the Europeans got the boot and it became the U.S. So you see, by your logic, everyone that has ever had a colony in the new world has a right to just come here however they want whenever they want. Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? So as long as they go through legal procedures to come here, I'll welcome them with open arms and encourage them to vote conservative. As to them coming here "freely" as illegal immigrants, NO!!!! Since you think this is such a great idea, why don't you go freely to Mexico, and see what happens to you.

No. This is OUR soverign land. I dont care if it belonged to mexico once. New England and the mid atlantic states USED to belong to Great Britain, should they be allowed to come here freely? Dont think do. The military should be posted along both borders. Our national security should be a priority in this country.

No. Do Americans have the right to immigrate to Mexico freely. Read Mexico's Immigration laws.

Take care of your country and let us take care of ours. Why do the Mexicans want to come here when Mexico is such a wonderful place.

Used to is the word, but fuQ it take them, it won't matter, because if we give it to Mexico, then all the Mexicans, will want to move to Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and too tell you the truth we should just give it all back to the Native American Indians, and all the Mexicans, should give theirs back to the Spain, because the Mayan no longer exist!!!
