I have a 1999 Mercury Sable with the base 3-liter V6 engine. It has about 130,000 miles on it. The past couple of days it has started jolting every time I take off from a complete start. It feels almost like the engine is revving out of gear and then finding the gear. It is really weird. A few suggestions I've had from friends include.- faulty transmission, low on transmission fluid, broken motor mounts, and a dirty fuel filter. While I'm sure they are trying to be helpful, none of them know all that much about cars. Just wondered if anyone out there might know what is causing this to happen. WAnt to know if it's worth trying to get it repaired, or is it time to look for another car?

Check your transmission fluid first b/c it could be low. If not, then you'll need to bring it to a transmission speacialist. It's the transmission for sure.

Its a disgrace. Once, a few years back, i went camping with my family and friends. I was a very hot day and we got up to go the nearby river to cool off. We walked passed this relatively small car and there were at least 3 dogs inside, no windows cracked, no water, nothing. There was nobody around/near the car nor did anybody claim it when we told the managers. We contacted the police and the owners arrived back (just in time for the police coming) they said they were out shopping and only been away a few hours. They claimed the before they left they gave the dogs a big bowl of water and soaked them with the hose. We left as soon as the police got there so i have no idea what happened to the dogs or the owners. People need to get some sense.

If it feel like it is reving when you try to take off from a dead start, try starting low gear and see if it is still doing it. 130,000 is alot off miles it wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter anyway. Try shifting from drive to reverse while holding the brake and watch the engine. If the motor mounts were broke you will be able to see it (engine rocks both and forth alot) and you will hear it.
