Hi, I'm pregnant with my first child, and I'm so confused! I'm 38 weeks, and the doctor told me on friday that I am 2 cm. dialated(I have gained 1 cm. since the friday before that). I have been having awful cramps, but they aren't constant. I only have labor pains when I walk around or stand, or if I'm sitting straight up. I sometimes have them if I'm just laying around. This has been going on since my exam on Friday. Are these real labor pains that I should care about, or is it braxton hicks?

its called prelabor, sometimes called false labor. You body is starting the labor process, but its not a regualr productive labor. It can last for days, even weeks. Some women go into labor with a bang, some have an agonizingly slow build up. Good luck!

wow - how exciting :)

38 weeks is a huge mile stone of your pregnancy. by 38 weeks most things are aching and cramps and being uncomfortable are 'normal'. Your baby is putting allot of pressure down there and on your lower back which is why you are feeling more discomfort in certain positions. Try taking your weight off you feet & back as much as you can. Baths and showers might help give you some releif. You could also try hot packs (rice in a pillow case heated in the microwave works a treat!!)

I dont think they are labour pains (sorry) it just sounds like pressure and possibly a combination of braxton hicks. :)

Not long now... small walks may assist in improving circulation and light stretches may ease aches and pains.

My doctor told me this.........."when your in labor youll know it" and I had all the braxton hicks you could imagine. Then one day standing in line at burger king I knew......My doctor wouldn't let me go to the hospital till my contractions were 6 min apart consistently for 2 hours......the longest 2 hours of my life.......

also I found that when I was having the false labor that I could fall asleep. I couldnt once it was the real thing. If they have you concerned I would call the doctor. They are used to getting these calls. Its why they make the big bucks.

and find your comfortable position, and tell the hubby that you really need him to be helpful and supportive right now

Funny thing you should ask. I would def talk to your doc. We took my sister to 6 flags new england yesterday, she was complaingin of contractions but they werent far enough apart. We dropped her off at her house, an hour later her water broke. So i would def talk to your doc right away!
