Why do some people say that the babies lungs are not developed at 37 weeks, but my doctor says if the baby comes out now she will be okay??? So if I Induce my labor on my own then the baby comes out she will be okay??? All the websites that I read say the only thing your baby is doing is just getting fat! so when are her lungs really ready??

MORe than likely the baby's lungs are fine at 37 weeks. A NORMAL pregnancy is 37-42 weeks. People think that 37 is "preemie" age..NOT TRUE. And, are those people your DR? No...:) COngrats on your new lil one!

There's a reason nature intends babies to incubate in the womb for 40 weeks. It is said that the babies are "full term" at 37 weeks but the lungs are pretty much developed by 35 weeks. At least that's what my doctor told me (I'm 35 weeks pregnant now). But of course it's better your baby stay in until the end! Good luck!

Prior to having my daughter i had three miscarriages and my pregnany with my lil girl was very rough. at 32 weeks they were going to take her becuase the amniotic fluid got low, so they gave me a shot of steroids to make sure the baby's lungs were fully developed. i made it to 37 weeks and she was born 3 weeks early, my pregnancy was hard and miserable had to take 3 shots a day, so i was ready so i did self inducing things, i had sex, walked two miles and drank castor oil. worked like a dream i was in the hospital that night. i had the baby the next day when the doc broke my water. my advice would be to do what makes you happy, i cant say that your baby's lungs will be fully developed, but they most likely are, if you feel like that is what you want to do i would, but that is just from experience. i am pregnant again and dealing with the same complications and i hope that once i again i will have the baby early, i guess i just get anxious like you are im sure. hope this helps you a lil.

I've also seen on T.V. where a woman was to deliver at 38 weeks but the doctors had to do an amnio. to see if the baby's lungs were fully developed and they were. I have the book What to Expect When You are Expecting and it says that if a baby were born after the end of the sixth month that they can survive with intensive care.

I know someone who had a c-section around 38 weeks and her son had to stay in the NICU because his lungs were not developed yet. It all depends on the baby. If i were you i would just wait it out, she will come out when she is ready.
I know the waiting can be hard i am 38.5 weeks with my first and very anxious also but in the end it will be worthy it to have a healthy baby!!!!

It's different for every person..... My son was born at 371/2 weeks everything fine, My little girl born at 361/2, she was not ready. She had to be tubed. My doctor felt she was going to be OK, even though the amio told him otherwise, but we proceeded ahead only b/c my son's birth 8 years before went off with no problems. I find it better to wait for the baby, they know when they are ready. Good luck and best wishes on your little one!

i had a hinde water leak at 28 weeks with my first daughter and the dr gave me steroids to help her lungs develop at that stage he told me she may need help breathing if she was born then but would be ok long term, i managed to put of her deliviry to 36 weeks and she was born perfectly fine fullt developed just a little bit small 6'1. but no health problems at all. good luck but if there is no medical reason to induce then do not do it only a few weeks to go.

Yes they are considered full term at 37 weeks. That doesn't mean they are ready to "come out". Let the baby bake at two more weeks lol.

your not full term til 38 weeks. please for your babys health let her stay in as long as possible. there is always a chance that your due date is off. and a chance your baby is small for age thus the warnings about lung development please dont try to self induce baby will come when he or she is ready dont risk your baby's health
