Baseball Tragedy.....?
A Tulsa Drillers coach was struck in the head by a foul ball Sunday and pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.
Is anyone aware of other accidents of this magnitude that has occurred before?
Wanted to say I was also a season ticket holder for the team before moving to Florida. They've always been rated as one of the the best Minor League organizations in the country and this a tragic blow to the families, friends and the Tulsa community. He is survived by his wife , 2 small children and another due in October.

I had just read that he got back into baseball recently because his young children wanted to see him on the field and he had only been with the Drillers since beginning of July.

Ray Chapman was hit in the head by a pitch and killed on August 16, 1920.
He is the only player to ever die in a major league game.

The most famous is, of course, Ray Chapman dying after getting beaned by Carl Mays in 1920. There was also a fan killed by a foul ball in the early 1970s, and a few other cases of minor league players getting killed.
It is, of course, tragic but considering it's a game where small hard balls often travel at 100 mph with very little reaction time, the number of fatalities has been very low. The total number of confirmed fatalities from all pro baseball is only about 6 or 7 - that's not many for a sport over a century old.

Tragedy, no. Tragic, yes! It is a tragedy only for the people close to him, especially his wife, children, and unborn child. People die everyday. It is very sad though and the first thing I thought this morning when I heard about it was, "Wow, of all the ways to lose a father and husband"!
You never would think going to do your job could result in your death. But the reality is that baseball is a dangerous sport, more than people realize. I have seen many pitchers get drilled in the face by line drives and it is very fortunate that I haven't witnessed death by one of these.
It is very sad and my prayers go out to his family. I can't begin to even imagine what they are going through right now.

Due to the intense heat of the impact of a fully fueled plane hitting the towers, there is no possible way that passports would have survived the crash. The heat was enough to destroy human bone, so paper, regardless of its thickness would havebeen incinerated. Just another American lie at the time. Passports are made of thicker and more "wear resistant" materials, hence their longevity and sometimes being found intact at accidents.

People have been seriously injured by fouls balls before, and a young girl was killed by a puck at a NHL game in Columbus a few years ago.
Luckily, you are more likely to get struck by lightning AND hit the Powerball the same day than to get killed at a sporting event today.
May God bless his family.

actually it is tragic, his children don't have a father anymore, and his wife is a widow, this is definatley a sad day for both his family on and off the field, but i have a feeling that since it was minor league not many people are going to pay attention.
