Not that I pay much attention to Miss America, but doesn't Puerto Rico get an entry? That would make fifty-one.
The reason for the difference is the number of voters. Not near as many for Miss America as for President.
Also, I think the media would have a tough time keeping up with a fifty candidate presidential race. They aren't doing too well with the dozen or so we have now. With Miss America, it's a snap; "Here comes another chick in an evening gown, this one is green, she's followed by another chick in blue....."

Do you want an inexperienced person running your country?
MOST people between the ages of 17 and 24 while being very smart and hard working do not have the experience to take on and handle a job such as running a country.
To compete in the Miss America Pageant you must -
Be between the ages of 17 and 24.
Be a United States citizen.
Meet residency requirements for competing in a certain town or state.
Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization.
Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements.
Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by the local program in which you compete.
Interesting question.
Good luck

What would lead you to think we had anything to do with either choice? Many people are evaluated for roles like President. The committee is secret. Many people evaluate the Miss America contestants. The winner is known before the show begins. The same seems to be true in Presidential elections. There is only a pretense of choice. It is a bit of show bizinez. If we had choice, the current Mr. Bush, would never have been President. That we have choice is just one more media driven illusion.

There are currently what, 15 candidates today for the President? So, actually it is more than 2. It doesn't take Miss America contestants $10 million to run. Additionally, all you have to do is look pretty for Miss America, Presidents are a lot tougher to get people to support you. Finally, you have to get a few judges to vote for you on Miss America, Presidents need millions of people to be convinced.

Perhaps it is because the two presidential candidates are just like the fifty Miss America candidates because they all say they want "World Peace," but the Miss America candidates mean it.

I would be all for 50 canidates... one from each state...
Have mini elections...
However... it does not keep representation balanced with the populations of the state..
Wyoming having equal representation as Texas... not exactly balanced.
I would prefer a 5 party system similar to our current process, with exception of eliminating the all or nothing states. Electoral votes need to be spread based on the number of votes received..
Democrats votes in texas deserve to be heard...

omit usa has a attractiveness for being a competent occasion and each State is keen to grant a representative on the different hand the presidents of cutting-edge years could be immoral idiots and particularly some States do no longer prefer that rep.

i think it is more and if you will see candidates like nader, perot, wallace and others have thrown elections from the wings many times. it is a little funny because a third candidate tends to take away votes from the candidate more similar, so that the candidate less similar wins. but there is no set fromula that it has to stay this way. it can change. independent candidates could make it change

Well having to choose from among a hundred perky female boobs is a good place to be.
Having to choose between two sagging male boobs is bad enough without adding more.
