Personally, I think JKR was stretching with this part quite a bit. After all, she did say that once you were "dead" you were "dead." She wormed out of it with the King's Cross chapter. This was limbo. Dumbledore was waiting in limbo (the space some believe exists for souls between heaven and hell) for the ultimate resolution to the Harry vs. Voldemort saga. When the Avada Kedavara spell hit Harry in the forest, he "died" and went to limbo. He supposedly then "chose" to try to live and complete the fight against Voldemort instead of enter heaven. Dumbledore agreed that was a wise choice and felt his time wasn't completely up because the other being next to him in limbo was Tom Riddle's struggling soul. Harry wanted to help "it" in limbo, but Dumbledore told him he couldn't help it there. Harry left limbo to try to appeal to Voldy's "better nature" and asked him to "feel remorse" during their final struggle in the entrance hall at Hogwarts in an attempt to help the pieces of his soul that were in limbo, but Voldemort just laughed it off and doomed himself. Once Harry was safe, I believe Dumbledore went to heaven and Voldy was greeted with the torn pieces of his soul in limbo or maybe in hell. I hope that makes some sense. It was a hard chapter to figure out.

Dumbledore was there because Harry was in the place between Heaven and Earth. Harry was able to go back to life because when Voldemort cast his spell to kill Harry, he didn't realize that part of his soul was in Harry. And when he attempted to kill Harry, he killed that Horcrux that was inside Harry. And Harry returned to Earth. Harry did not possess all of the Deathly Hallows. Voldemort had the wand. So Harry was not the Master of Death at that time.

LOL! me 2! yeah i was pretty confused + i read the chapter twice. i think (it's a prediction) that somehow dumbledore managed to get into his mind because in the end of the chapter dumbledore says that it's happening in his mind. i think it was sorta like a vision thing- or it just might've been that harry was having a dream . & im not sure about the deathly hallows part- he is the master of death but he gives it up in the end.

He never died in the first place. The bond of blood meant that what Voldemort did was to kill off the part of his soul that had bonded to Harry the first time Voldemort tried to kill Harry.
He did not possess the deathly Hallows: he had the cloak, had dropped the stone and Voldemort used the wand (Also one reason Harry did not die might have been that the wand did recognize Harry as its master and would not kill Harry only the part of Voldemort in him).
That does not mean Harry didn't suffer trauma, and perhaps the closeness to dieing opened a channel to Dumbledore.
All that aside, I'm not totally sure JKR means us to completely understand.

This is not very clear but it was either that it was all in Harry's mind OR that he died and came back to life b/c like Dumbledore said...since Harry's blood is in Voldemort which has the protection of his mother. harry can't die while Voldemort is alive.
I think it was a dream b/c it says he can't Die

I thought it was more of a limbo type place.
He was knocked out, kind of. So he had this whole conversation with Dumbledore in his head, but it was real.
As Dumbledore says, "It is in your head, but that doesn't mean it's not real".
He was able to go back to life because Voldemort's blood was tying him to earth. When Voldemort came back to life, he used Harry's blood, which had Lily's protection. Since Harry essentially still had his blood left on earth, he was able to go back. You could also go back and try to read that chapter again, but hopefully I explained it well enough.
Sincerely,
Angela

1. It's very complicated and I'm confused myself, but I got the idea that it's because Voldemort took blood from Harry to get his body back. Part of Voldemort was in Harry and part of Harry was in Voldemort, so Harry couldn't die as long as Voldemort lived. That's just what I thought. Er. I don't know exactly.
2. I don't think so, but maybe.
3. I think it was like Heaven, or like standing outside Heaven. Harry was naked, but he wanted clothes and got them. That seems like Heaven. But, on the other hand, Voldemort was the flayed child (that's how I took it, anyhow) and he was in a sort of Hell. So it was a bit like Purgatory. But that's just my interpretation.

Yes it was because he was Master of Death. As Dumbledore told him, it was his 'party' he had won.
Dumbledore was there because Harry wanted him there, I think, Harry guessed that it all existed in his own mind and it seemed right it was all Harry's own creation based on his own understanding. I do think JKR meant for it to be *like* heaven where Harry was, Voldemort was in hell.

JKR wrote this way above what most kids would be able to understand and frankly it took me a while to get it all.
Voldemort didn't kill Harry. He killed the piece of his own soul (the horcrux) that was inside Harry. Harry, himself, was only stunned.
The thing with Dumbldore was in his own head. JKR did indeed reach on this one. I know it's fiction but this part was a work of fantasy. *grin*

In the book, Harry asked Dumbledore if their conversation was real or in his mind, and it was obvious that it was in his mind. Harry was able to go come back to life because he accepted that he had to die in order to protect those he loved. Voldemort destroyed the part of himself in Harry, but not Harry himself.
