What is an "Emo"?

I keep hearing this term.

I know it is a type of music, but what kind of person is it like?

What are these people like?

What specific musical artists do they like?

Is this term derogatory?

Btw, would the group "The Killers" be considered "Emo"??

Emos are emotional people that are deeply in touch with their feelings.. Usually they find it hard to express themselves verbally so they do it by writing poetry or lyrics to music.. The sexuality of the person doesn't have anything to do with being emo, although it might lead people to being emo.. And emos are NOT sad all the time like most people think, they experience joy just like everyone else, but they just prefer the darker side of their hearts, but that doesn't make them weird, it makes them different.. And of late being 'emo' has become a sort of trend &it's totally annoying because you see all these people pretending to be sad just because they think emos are sad all the time.. and later you see them prance around saying 'Oh look! I'm EMo!'.. which is totally stupid.. But the people doing this are rcognised as posers.. But they totally annoy the real emos out there who just mind their own business..

As for music and style, they usually like a fringe covering one eye (which helps cover up the emotions shown through their eyes), and they dont go for black from head to toe! They usually wear something black but not everything.. And the music has to have deep words and feeling which effect the listener.. Such as Fall Out Boy, 30seconds to Mars, Hawthorne Heights.. But They usually go for rock too..

No, The Killers are Indie. Emo music is stuff like Fall Out Boy, Matchbook Romance, My Chemical Romance etc
Emo people tend to wear tight jeans and gravitate towards stripy things. Long fringes a la Peter Oakey and a HELL of a lot of eyeliner (yes, this includes the boys)

Okay well. The word itself is an abreviation of emotional. It was originally a music genre but then people starting sterotyping other "emo" people...These people wear studed belts, starry stuff, checked clothes, black skinny jeans, colourful stripey tops, wrist bands, lots of eye liner, big side fringes. etc. They sometimes slit their wrists or self harm in other ways....they listen to Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Bullet For My Valentine, Linkin Park etc. This is because most of the lyrics are about how crap their lives are lol....yeah they ain't happy people...but these lyrics are very deep and meaningfull. The Killers are not emo.

haha ok emo is short for emotional. emo people are like goths but WAY less hardcore. They are known as cutters, which is TOTAL stereotype. Emo music usually has deep lyrics and is some type of rock. Lots of emo guys are bisexual. And hot. Oh yes. Lol hope that helps a bit♥

Emo is short for emotional. I like to cry, read poetry, and slit my wrists. It gives me a depressing sensation. Don't corner me in with goths though. I hate that. We're not the same at all. I wear all black mostly. I have long black hair. I also paint my nails and where make-up. I write in a diary also. The Killers isn't really emo, but they are ok.

I think they are these sad kids or dramatic kids. To me it seems like a sub-culture, like hip-hop or goth. I think Hawthorne Heights is, but I don't think the Killers is. I like MCR but I listen to a wide range of music, and I might not be 100% qualified to answer this.

Emo.... Overly depressive person who likes to dress in black and thinks that they're life is so much worse than everyone else's.

I wish they would take a look around (perhaps at south africa or etheopia and see that the world isn't so black and white) and that there are so many people (and children in particular) whose lives are so much worse.
