With 100 being the best:
100 DH
99 HBP
98 GoF
97 PoA
95 SS, OotP
93 CoS
You can see that they are, to me, very closely bunched and even CoS is excellent.

JK's books definitely progresssed along with the original fanbase who read her books since 1997. Her latest books shows maturity beyond the first three books. The theme has gradually got more sophisticated through the series and that is why book 7 is my favourite. Harry must overcome so many hurdles in the last book. He must deal with so many issues. Although the books are about magic, the subject matter is about coping with difficult/impossible situations and death! For the maturity it showed, I think Book seven was the best!!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It explained every question I had in my mind and erased any doubt. This book was also the one that made me feel the most emotions. I laughed, I cried, I mourned, etc... it was hard for me not to love the book. It had me in suspense from the very beginning, wondering how the trio was to survive the following year.
There's no doubt in my mind that the last book is my favorite.

I have to say Order of the Phoenix.
Deathly Hallows comes in at a very close 2nd, but JK did such a marvelous job of disguising secrets and building a close bond between Harry and Sirius, that when Sirius died, it really did it for me.
It would have been Deathly Hallows, but there were too many gray areas, which were still pretty awesome, but I think that Order of the Phoenix barely had any gray area, so I have to say OOTP.

I think they've all been superb. They're extremely well written and easy to understand and visualize. I was amazed when I saw the first movie at how closely it resembled what my mind's eye had pictured.
I've been quite disappointed about the hype about the latest book -- that people seemed to feel the need to buzz about it and make every effort to spoil it for future readers.
Even my husband very nicely told me that our city had added crisis counselors to help kids deal with the ending.
J.K. Rowling has a genius for words.
If only some of my favorite authors had received some of the same cooperation and effort into the films of their books that she received on hers!

Definetly Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was probably my favorite book of all time. It connected all the books into one, and brought back old characters and old things. I loved it.

The Prisoner of Azkaban - it's where Harry finally gets a family (albeit on the run). this is where the story gets darker and veering away from the kidstuffs.
and
The Deathly Hallows - brilliantly written.

3rd book, before it went all chick-flick, angsty teenage love life in the next two. Came good in the finish, once it went back to being an action story, not a teenage love story.
