I've noticed after washing my dark clothes, the machine leaves what looks to be dried/leftover detergent on the clothes. I have to scrub them with a washcloth to get them clean. This happens before they go in the drier, so I know the washer is the problem. It is a somewhat older machine. Am I using too much detergent? Any other ideas on what the issue might be? thanks!!

I had this same problem & a Washer repairman told me to do this & it worked. Run the washer on it's hottest setting with about 1 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar in the tub for a full cycle & then run it again with nothing but about 1 c. bleach on hottest cycle again. You might want to wipe around the top of the washer rim to clean any old soap residue away too. This should fix your problem. You might try liquid detergent instead of powder as I have found that liquid dissolves better & doesn't leave a residue for future loads. Good luck!

Try turning your garments inside out/ using less detergent and not overfilling the washer.. If you have an extra rinse cycle use it and put the detergent in the washer before you put the clothes in the wash, if you are using powder detergent use liquid it rinses better... These things should help...Good luck

Put the detergent in the bottom of the tub/washer and turn it on. Let a little water get in the tub before putting the clothes in. That takes care of it 95% of the time.

make your loads smaller, always use the "large load" water fill and use way less detergent, its a common mistake to think that more is better, its just not..and try using a good liquid detergent, if your water is hard, it will still be able to mix well, if u really like powder detergents, then add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the wash each time to soften the water and help the detergent dissolve
