First, no college degree from anywhere guarantees a job.

But there are very reputable distance education programs offered by real colleges and universities.

Check out this website: http://www.r1edu.org

You'll find courses and degree programs offered by Penn State University, University of Maryland, Indiana University, Michigan State University, Iowa State University, and even Stanford, Cornell, and Columbia.

Good luck to you both!

Get her a laptop with wireless, she can go online. It isn't true that online college is not 'real.' In higher education, accreditation is what matters. The online schools go through the same process, and other accredited grad schools accept these degrees.

You're looking for accreditation- ie. middle states, southern states, etc. Check out about.com for this info, they have it all there. Also, there's no such thing as 'highly' or well accredited- either the school is accredited or not. Sorry, I worked in higher ed, and this idea is kind of funny to me.
Cross check the accreditation with the accrediting body to make sure, too. Department of ed is not enough- it needs to be one of the 6 bodies, because tech schools are also recognized by the dept. of ed, and she can't go to grad school with that (she needs to consider that in making her choice as you never know what she will decide to do. You can do grad work online, too. She needs something that will give her that option should she choose it).

Job opportunities- the market is tough, but a bachelor's will get her a better position than no bachelor's. An associate is better than no associate. You didn't tell us what she wants to do or what her interest are. She can get an MBA online, but if she hates math and business, this is useless because she will be miserable. She can study English, but if she hates reading, well... you get the picture.

Check out Peterson's or another reputable guide online, and look at the schools together. Whether she goes to private or public school is a financial and personal decision you will make together.

Beware of scams- don't fall for a 'life experience' degree. While some schools give elective credit, there's no degree totally comprised of life experience.

Touring will be really exciting for both of you, I hope you have a great time.

Colorado State University has an online Bachelor's degree in Business Administration it is a very well respected college, and no one would know it was earned online. She could also just go to any community college and take all her classes online.

If you didn't add the part about actually being able to get a job, I could say YES. The fact is that on-line colleges are not well respected.

Let her go to a real college, and try to visit her when you can. You don't want her living through you, anyway.

Yes! With access to the internet from anywhere, this is a very good time to look into on-line college.

Good luck!
