Marriage was invented to bring couples closer togeather as a family, and so they could have children the proper family way and watch them grow as a family =]

I think for property reasons. When people married centuries ago the wife was considered the husband's property, like his children, his land, his home and his animals. The marriage meant that she could only have children with him - that she was bound to him.
Eventually it became for romantic reasons. But I think (I'm not sure) that in some places the wife is still considered her husband's property.

Its sad but so very true back in the day it was a way of saying women belong to the men! That is why they take on the last name of the man. It 3rd world contries or countries who look down upon woman it is still true to this day. GOD BLESS THE USA!
