To help your concentration - the brain can only handle so much stimuli at once, so turning the radio down eliminates that form and you can concentrate on finding the right place.

maybe it's becaz you listenig to your favorite song and get in that atmostsphere. Then you lose tract of where you are going. In high school, I got lost all the time:]

I guess we can hear ourselves better when we talk to ourselves.
it's like someone talking to a blind person real loud, or catching ourselves using sayings like, "see you later" or "see you later".
