My son is 12, almost 13. We live in Texas, and as most people know we have had some pretty bad storms in Texas this year. We have been lucky and have not suffered much damage. However, now every time it even rains even a little my son get so stressed out. I have spoken with him about it and he knows its stupid but he says he can't help it. Any suggestions?

Your kid is smarter than u think. Has he ever been at sea in a storm???

As for a suggestion...
Don't sweat it. So he's scared of storms...it aint a big deal. Oh yeah maybe some kids will rag on him a bit, but other than that there's nothin really wrong with being scared of storms.

He'll most likely grow out of it soon anyhow. Just comfort him during a storm till he does. But I wouldn't try to change him or nothin.

Get a box of activities just for storms. Maybe some earmuffs included to help block out some of the noise. Fill the box with a flashlight, extra batteries, a lego model to put together, some colored pencils and paper, Origami paper and a book to go with it, some gum. Let him pick the things that you suggest out at the store and even buy him a plastic box that he can decorate with paint or something. Let him find a place for it in his room so he can get it when he wants to. These would all be things he can do with someone or alone and he might begin associating storms with good things instead of scary thing.

Im 16 years old and i live in Ohio were we also get our share of bad storms and tornadoes. I was scared of storms and i still am a little, but all you have to do is just re assure your son and let him know that nothing bad is going to happen. Tell him no matter where you go there will always be some kind of storm and all he has to do is just face the facts that nothing is going to happen.

Keep him occupied during the storm so he takes his mind off of it as much as possible. Play board games together during the storm, and sit and play video games with him, and maybe he'll be having so much fun with you, he'll forget about the storm.

He might need to talk to someone about his fears. I still jump a little when I hear really loud thunder. Try telling him that rain is not going to hurt him, but not in a condesending way. Try not to react too negatively to his fears.

hold him tightly whenever it storms and tell him how much you love him..

remember he hears the head lines about how many people die from these storms and it can be a little or a hell of a lot scary..

so comfort and reassurance..

if the storm is going to get you,it's going to get you.not much you can do about it.i told my kids this.they don't get scared to much.having a storm celler or basement should help ease the fear.it's one of those fears you have to conquer.

Give him alot of love and encouragement especially when it starts raining hard. He's probably seen alot of scarey weather lately.
