What exactly is the Skull and Bones secret society?

I was reading up on something and the Skull and Bones came up. What exactly is thier purpose or views, and does it still exist today?

I believe it's at Yale, and has gotten known because President Bush is/was a member. Since it is secret (supposedly), we would not know their purpose or views, would we?
