There are two ways, depending on your personality.

1. Start planning. Grab a pen and paper, or, if that's your style, sit down at the computer. Play some "what if" games and find an idea you like. Come up with a few characters and do some work with them -- sketch them, jot personality quirks, whatever. Then put all of it together into a loose plan and begin to write. Make sure you don't plot things too tightly, because you will change them as you go.

2. Start writing. Find an idea, or a scene, or an image, and go with it. This is how I write, but be warned that this approach tends to back you into a corner sooner or later, and you usually wind up having to take the first approach anyway.

pick up a book that hasn't sold very well and is about 60 years old. Change the characters names and setting and throw in a few new twists and plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize. It's not necessarily writing but it is awfully good typing. No i'm just kidding......start with an idea and characters and try mapping out the story roughly...now you know where the story is going but all the juicy details will come later when you actually write the book. Maybe have a map for each chapter.

To ask now how to do it is the wrong question. You should have written in a diary for most of your life. That will help you in the emotions you write about. There are several programs to help you construct a manuscript. Also research the market in which you send your novel. So much to do and so little time, good luck.

Welllllll. . . . I'm not sure what to say. Basically you just have an idea and then start writing. That's what I've always done. But have you tried typing "how to write a novel" into Google or someplace? You can also try Wikihow. It's good.

Sit down, turn off the tv and start writing...I bought a software program called Dragon NaturallySpeaking, a voice recognition software. I can write without typing...it's pretty cool stuff...

Depends. If it's fiction, just sit down, write, and see where your ideas take you. There's always room for revision later. If it's nonfiction, you'd better have done your research before you get started, because it can be harder to find inaccuracies and change them later.
