Making sure you get the right amount of fruit everyday is very critical if you've ever had those kinds of digestive problems.

Wheat bread instead of normal bread is also nice to have. Although bread in general isn't good to eat when you suffer from constipation.

Apples, bananas, grapes, -- these kinds of fruit should alwyas be in your fruit basket.

Stool softeners from time to time are pretty handy. They don't mess up your stomach the way laxatives do.

Hope this helps!

A good diet for constipation for a young child is water, veggies and if mineral oil (in moderation). They do make dissolving gentle laxative pellets that taste similar to chocolate.
Make sure the child is getting enough exercise as well. No Bananas or too much apple sauce!!!!!

Any 100% juice given to them without being diluted with water should do it. Also grapes and raisens are good foods to get your digestion moving. Any fruit is good. Also high fiber cereals such as shredded wheat, mini wheats, or raisen bran will work well. Maybe even some toast or a sandwich made from whole wheat bread. I think these are all common, inexpensive things that most kids will eat. Of course if nothing works, make sure you take your child to the doctor asap.

Lots of high fiber foods--vegetables, fruits, whole grains. Dried fruits are sometimes good for, shall we say, moving things along. Get some dried apricots or prunes and give a few to your child as a snack.

BTW, bananas do not cause constipation; they're good for the opposite problem because they replace lost electrolytes.

The only thing I can add from my cousin's experience with her child is a warm bath and walking/exercise. He also had to have mineral oil and laxatives.
