What is the best way to start a conversation?

I have never been much of a talker. I guess for me it is hard to get the ball rolling in talking to people but once I find a few common interests I am a great conversationist. So, how do you guys go about talking to strangers?

When I had to go to the nursing home and talk to the discharge planner, you know what I'm talking about, I picked up on her insecurities pretty fast and played them up. She was a big girl so one time I told her, "oh those pants are so cute, and slimming too." She was all smiles and willing to do anything for me at that point. With what you'll be doing, why you're asking this question, you'll be dealing with mostly women. Tell them how pretty their wedding ring or earrings are. Something like "Hi, oh those earrings are gorgeous." (Wait for her response and then play it up) then lead in to "My name is D...... and I'm from At..... I just wanted to talk to you for a minute about our company."

say hello try to shake hands or something like that to break the ice then talk about something they are looking at or doing. for instance: if your at a bloackbuster or something and you see a cute guy you want to talk to kinda walk by once and see what he's checking out then walk by again and comment about one of the movies he is looking at and then just go from there and remember always smile. thats just one example i hope that helps. also be yourself dont try to be something your not and never lie

maybe start by saying hello...nice shirt or some kind of compliment...and go from
there...I always talk to people I don't know...
