Hi,
I have a 2006 250x. Just recently, the electric starter stopped working. If I hold the electric start, I can only hear a clicking noise coming from what I guess to be the starting motor. I figured that the battery could have died, so I let it run for a while. After that the starter worked, but the next day the problem returned. I have been reading about a solenoid online and was wondering if that could be the problem. If anyone has an idea of what this could be, I would appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!!!

You probably have a battery charging issue. Get a battery tender (trickle charger) and always connect it when the bike sits unused.

The problem with dirt bike is that they have limited charging capacity and are used only occasionally, so the battery doesn't get as much charge is it needs.

How long did you let it run? Did you ride it or just let it sit idling? Letting the bike run for a while is only going to give the battery a very limited charge.

The clicking noise is the starter solenoid.
If it clicks once while the button is still pressed, that would be a weak battery.
To check the starter motor and battery, by-pass the starter solenoid (the battery positive cable goes to it).
The 2 large terminals on the solenoid, touch both at the same time with a large screwdriver (careful of sparks).
If the engine cranks over, replace the starter solenoid.

sounds just like my KTM 525EXC as the battery is going bad... enough juice to try to start it, but starter just clicks... kick that beast over to get it started and ride for a bit and usually works fine the rest of the day... next day same thing. replace the battery and works fine...

might take your battery in for a load test to ensure it's at proper level. might also get a battery tender to plug in to keep the battery full charged while sitting in the garage so it's ready to ride.

I looked all the www.bikebandit.com at your specific model but never found the solenoid that drives the starter motor...

Try replacing the battery if you haven't already. Thats a quick, common problem and won't cost you too much. THe batteyr might be covered under warranty if its an '06 too. I you have a good warranty, take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.
