how can you tell what ethnic group you are from?

i know what my mom side is but my dad side mite be either Russian or Chechen how can you tell wicth one?

At an extreme, I suppose you could have a DNA test done. The Human Genome Project has been mapping the mix of gene pools, and may be able to tell you where your father's genes came from.

But Russian and Chech have been mixed together for long enough that "northern Europe" or "Eastern Europe" are probably as close as you can get.

I wonder why it matters to you. If you could know your individual father yes, I think that would matter. But if that's not possible, what is the point?
