On 9/11, we discovered we had people living in our country who wanted to kill us. This got many people's attention focused on illegal immigration.

While the racists use this an excuse to keep out people with darker skin, that is not the position most anti-illegal immigration people have.

Bush is a wuss on the immigration issue! He would rather it not be discussed at all!

I think the immigration debate was started by the people of America. We realized after 9/11 just how porous our borders are. It would not be difficult for terrorists to enter the US through Mexico. I do not think the debate was started by Bush or has anything to do with propaganda. It was defiantly not started by racists. It has nothing to do with racism, the debate is about security. Those who support amnesty call those against it racist because they really do not have any other argument supporting their position.
