Any of the singers that I know who have strong accents seem to lose them when they sing. Why is that? Has anyone else noticed that or do I just have too much time on my hands?

Weird, isn't it? Actually you can notice Shakira's accent sometimes, but it's very subtle. And yet, when she sings in Spanish, she uses her Spanish accent. Strange. I have an American accent, and I'm not a singer anyways, so I'll never understand why that happens. I guess it's just easier to sing in English if you're not using an accent.

I've noticed it, and it's always amused me that some of the singers with the heavy British accents lose them when they sing but then American singers sound British when they sing. One of the great mysteries of life.

That is such a good question. I have heard singers that have the
heavy accents sing and when they talk you wonder if it the same
person. But it true they seem to lose the accent. We may never
know why. It is a mystery.

Because they are more focused on the melody of the song more than how they pronounce the lyrics. They would like to sound not off key...
