My car's tires and rims were stolen. The cops say they can't do much about it. I suppose there is no way to track down the thieves. How can I insure this doesn't happen again? Will my car insurance increase because of this theft?

You can't expect cops to do everything. If you were the cop, how would you even start on finding those rims? They really can't do anything. The best thing is to protect yourself.

You should report anything you put on your car to the insurance so that it can be covered (but this depends on which plan you have). You can also buy wheel locks that require a special key to unscrew the lug, but that won't keep it from getting stolen, it will just take them longer.

You can also buy an aftermarket alarm that has a shock/tilt sensor.

wheel locks are available to help prevent theft in the future. you can buy a set of four, or you can buy a set where every lug nut is a wheel lock. understand though that this will only slow the amatures down, and you need to make sure you get the lock key back from the mechanic who services the tires on your car. they sometimes lose the darn things, and then you are stuck. as for your insurance going up, it is very likely. how much depends though on how many times you have used your insurance for this.

Hopefully you had compressive insurance on your car and have receipts for your new tires and wheels. You did the right thing by reporting your things stolen. You have the insurance company by the nads.

No, your rates will not go up nor will the rates go up and tag along like an accident or a hand full of traffic infractions.
