Wow, that was years ago. if I remember correctly. Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan for the title. Once he won the title he then attempted to sell it to The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. The Commissioner at the time Jack Tuney then made the title vacant and out it up for grabs in the first ever Championship battle royal, where I pretty sure, Macho man Randy Savage won.

Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan in a controversial match. The scheduled ref was Dave Hebner, but his twin brother Earl took his place. Andre had Hogan cover and Earl counted the pin even though Hogan kicked out. Bret Hart wasn't the first person Earl Hebner screwed. Andre was reward with the WWF Championship. He then surrender the title to The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase for a bunch of money. It was decided that the referee's decision was final. It was also decided by Andre had the right to surrender the belt at any time. So he was champion for 45 seconds. DiBiase was not recognized as champion however. The belt was held up. A tournament was held at Wrestlemania IV where Randy Savage defeated Ted DiBiase was the WWF Championship.

The story line was that Andre was working as a heel at the time. He was "paid" by Ted DiBiasse [a/k/a The Million Dollar Man] to wrestle Hulk Hogan for the title. Giant won, then turned his title over to DiBiasse.

Of course a short while later there was a "rulling" that no one can win the title this way, so since Hulk lost and Giant gave it up...it went up for grabs in a tournament. I don't recall who won

He won the title from Hulk Hogan, and then sold it to "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. It wasn't allowed by WWF "President" Jack Tunney. The title was held up, and a tournament was held at WM4, with Randy Savage winning it.

André defeated Hulk Hogan and then immediately attempted to sell the title to Ted DiBiase, thus rendering the title vacant.

After he beat Hogan by the belt, he tried to sell it to Ted Dibiase.

Then some guy (Forgot his name) came out and stopped him then declared the title vacant.

that's weird. I know that Kane held the belt once for less than a day--about 18 hours if I recall. He won it (with controversy) on a sunday and (against his manager's advice) lost it on monday night raw.
