I just read a question/comment from this truely ignorant person who stated that all the "white people" were crawling out of their trailers to get Micheal Vick. He even compair Vick to OJ Simpson.
I happen to be a white man who is the parent of three bi-racial children (their mom is black). My three boys enjoy to watch Micheal Vick play the game but as far as a pro athelete who they look up to and idolize they all have chosed someone who I think is a class act all the way and people like Micheal Vick, Pacman Jones and Tank Johnsoon could learn alot from and that is Donovan McNabb. Yes I said it, I the white man, root and support for Donovan McNabb. He has realized that pro sports atheletes are people our youth look up to and instead of thugging it out he has chosen to act with class and dignity. If everyone was so racist and just wants to see a black man down why aren't more people going after McNabb, he makes much more money than Vick, could it be because he acts Human?

Hey coolbreeze did you even read the question, I said that someone else had posted the race issue, I am one of the ones pointing out that race has nothing to do with the issue that it is Micheal Vicks actions that have him in trouble!!

True and very good point.

richard,
Great response and very well thought out. And yes I agree, I make it a point to teach my kids and let them know that using race as excuse for anything is unacceptable. Its the one good thing that I feel has come from this is that it has given me a forum to set down and talk to them about it and I have shown them some of the rantings of the people who are pulling the so called race card on this issue and how wrong it is to do so. Thanks for your response.

jazbac, christopher and carolina boy,
Great responses also, I would just feel wrong leaving you out. It's going to be very hard deciding who gets best answer on this one. I'm going to leave it open for a while to see what kind of response we get. Funny how only one person had anything negative to say so far, where are all the people who were using race as the reason Mr. Vick is in trouble, where are their well thought out responses?

That is a good point, and I think there are some over sensative individuals that are trying to make this entire Vick saga more than what it is. This man and his friends are being charged of a crime that has nothing to do with the color of his skin. They committed illegal activities and killed several of "man's best friend." I know that there are many different opinions on the matter, but to say that race has anything to do with it is just ignorant and unintelligent.

While reading over the Indictment, nowhere in that 18 page document did it say that these men where being charged for being black. They are being charged for torturing and killing dogs and holding illegal activities. If the arguement of race is ever going to die, then we have to allow it to, and just move on and say that a "man committed this crime," and not a "black man committed this crime." People in this country cry for equality for all races, but it's those same people who are quick to point out the wrong doings based solely on race.

It is unfortunate that pro-athletes as a whole have to pay for this crime with their image(white or black), but we as a fan base have to remember that this is only one man, and that over 90% of all pro-athletes never have a single altercation with the law. Look at the countless men and women in sports who give their time to needy families. The endless hours working with Habitat for Humanity, United Way and many other charities to help those in need. It's sad that we as a society put so much attention on those individuals who don't deserve it, no matter the color of their skin.

I hope that future generations(including your sons) don't rely on race as an excuse for the wrongs in our lives, but rather poor decisions that were made. Vick hurt millions around this country, and most aren't old enough to drive yet.

Honestly I do not see how race is even an issue in this case with Vick. Let's all let due process and the Constitution do it's thing and then go from there. If he is found guilty then he should have to pay the same penalties as any other American would have to. I do not believe he should be thrown out of football though, a man still needs to be able to earn a living. Now if he has violated the terms of his contract like getting put in prison, then that is his fault. I have not seen the contract so I don't know, but a contract is a contract and if he gets imprisoned I would want to void it out if I were the Falcons. I don't like the whole thing, this is bad if you are some guy who like to watch dog rip each other to pieces. You got to be a twisted and I will definately not feel sorry for him. I like McNabb to, at least he stays out of trouble for all I know.

Couldn't agree more. His race isn't an issue...it's his behavior and the fact he was indicted on a pretty serious charge. McNabb, on the other hand, has been nothing but a class act his entire career. Vick could be a class act...if he chooses to be. That's the whole trick. Dunn's another class act...helped raise his siblings...gave back to his home when they were rebuilding from Katrina
(and he never played in San Fran except as a visitor...and the only time he and Steve Young lined up together was in the Pro Bowl) Get your facts straight, Swiftkill
the RBs for the 9ers that year were Fred Beasley, Charlie Garner, Terry Jackson, Lawrence Phillips, Travis Jervey, and Tommy Vardell

White people do not have anything against Michael Vick. He was indicted on charges that are gruesome and just plain horrible. If he was white, he would not get any special treatment. Black people are only saying white people are out to get Michael Vick because Michael Vick is one of the most dominent black athletes in the sport.

White people have nothing against black athletes. Black athletes make up alot of the sports world including the NFL. Have you heard the charges Vick is accused of. They're horrible. Black or white, Vick is accused of doing something no pro athlete should be doing. Vick is/was a role model for kids black and white. I'm white. I love Vick, He's entertaining and a good football player. Why do people think this is a black/white issue. Theres black people saying he's guilty.

Every time a black person in the public eye does something it is a race issue. This one is further from that than almost every other case. It is simple, overwhelming amount of evidence on Vick's property, witnesses, and an already not so squeaky clean record. Lock him up, no matter what color he is.

I know NFL players and have hung out with them as lately as a couple months ago. I will say, we were treated like royalty everywhere we went. I was at one's house the day PS3 came out and played it in their theater room, I mean, they are like big kids with a key to the city. I love the ones I know, and they generally stay out of trouble, but for some people, they need much stricter rules.

Yes! Unfortunately, a lot of black fans actually worship Vick BECAUSE of his thuggish behavior! White fans are angry because they don't think Vick would even be a starting QB if he didn't sell so much merchandise to the 'hip-hop culture'. That is why whites pounced on him so hard over this. It is an excuse for saying, "We don't like thugs" and getting rid of Vick, without getting accused of racism. Of course, there are exceptions on both sides but the bottom line is that most people love Vick for the same reason most people hate Vick - and the line between the two sides is racial. Adding to fire is that the local officials - who are black, seemed to drag their feet on doing anything about this situation, and are only now (after the Federal incitment) acting like they can't ignore it anymore and are moving forward with their own case against Vick.

Still, it is unfair to Vick to compare him to O.J. The only one O.J. should be compared with is Charles Manson!

(You cannot compare O.J. to Blake. O.J. was much more famous. He killed his well liked wife AND an innocent bystander. He butchered them like hogs. They interupted the NBA finals to show him trying to flee the country on national TV. There was 10 times more evidence than what was needed to convict him, and he walked because of race. There wasn't hardly any evidence at all against Blake, and if he did do it, he killed a real low-life anyway. Two totally different cases.)

Christopher - great comment!

You are right, McNabb is a very classy fella. I actually like watching him play, now if he would stop getting hurt dammit! I love to watch Vick play, very exciting and I don't think he is a bad person, just makes some bad decisions. I don't know if he did it or not, but the company you keep can definately bring you down, especially if you have money like him you start to attract leeches. Alot of athletes think that the people they hang out with have their back, when in fact, they want to stab them in the back, and really don't want to see them do good. Now Pacman, he's had wayyyy too many run-ins, I just don't know what to say about him.

White-boy here

I don't claim to know the history behind Vick or McNabb but to I look at the Universities these "men" (very losely for Vick) went to. McNabb went to Syracuse I believe, not an easy school to attend! Vick on the other hand went to the New Thug-U Virginia Tech has a long history of taking in very troubled athletes, mainly on their football team! At Va Tech Vick was the ultimate, anything he did or didn't do (class) was hidden from the public eye because of what he could do for the "program".

Looking at another factor: the towns these guys play in. The "Fans" in Philly are insane, Mcnabb takes them to the superbowl and half of the city wants him out? In Atlanta Vick can do no wrong, you guys should've heard the sports talk radio the past 3 years for Vick, "This is the year he shows what he is capable of, his coach is a great offensive planner, and Vick has been putting in extra hours and taking his leadership role seriously!"

Coaching Staffs? Atlanta fired 2 coaches (Reeves shortly after going to the Superbowl) in order to appease Vick. In Philly the front office is in lock step behind the Coach. Philly is a no non-sense organization, holding out in Philly = murdered in Public Oppinion! Holding out in Atlanta not really news worthy because Blank just fills out a check for whatever!

I guess the constant here is discipline! In academics, accountability and Organizational Philosophy!

Very good point. I don't think race has anything to do with the authorities bringing to light the illegal activities of Michael Vick. Vick made his bed, if through no other means than picking the wrong group of associates - now he can lie in it.

We have Warrick Dunn here in Atlanta. He doesn't make the type of money Vick has, but he's a real class act. I really admire the man. I wish Michael Vick's money had been in his hands, he would do something GOOD with it.
