A doula is there for you during labor and delivery. they help sooth you, suggest pushing positions, comfort you, help you relax...etc. They are typically used when you want a more natural delivery, and when you would like to deliver at home or at a birthing center.

they are there for the mother during labor. they focus her on her breathing. rub the back during severe contractions. give ice chips. often times they are trained in checking the cervix to check dialation. their basic job is to make labor as easy as possible on the mother. if you can find one in your area i strongly suggest them. they are wonderful!
