That is a very true statement, but what is the question?

I'm "American" and I wish I knew about the 'handout' programs of which you speak. I have never used any state supported program....and not that I have not needed any state support during some lean times, but my pride and the energy that I have to get up and work is too great.

The issue I take with your question is that your reference is that "afro americans" depend upon programs for assistance and not others. Additionally, how would the political party be responsible to effect only one group? Any welfare advantages would and should be established for all who "need". It is most unfortunate that the numbers reflect negatively for Blacks who tend to stay in the system longer, Hispanics are the next highest number and then Caucasians. If we lived in a society that was fair and equal and treated all people the same with regards to work, salaries, etc. we probably would not have these differences.

All political parties can hurt EVERYBODY if they do not observe what the people need overall, and do not acknowledge the problems that exist and find ways to solve those problems. Some communities needs are greater than others and this is where state law and jurisdiction takes place.

Just for the record - I don't know any Blacks who are called "Afro" Americans. (afro is the style of hair) Personally, I am an American. The color of my skin SHOULD have nothing to do with it. I never been to "Africa" and therefore I can't possibly be "African American". In Africa - they call Black people here - Americans. Even the Iraquis call us "Americans".

***No offense intended or taken*** Just an opportunity to communicate the truth.

Addtionally - The "Reverends" Sharpton, Jackson and many others that I could name are helpful to the Black community mainly to support, make aware and increase efforts made toward Civil Rights. I don't understand why people have such a problem understanding the forum of these folks. When you have had your civil rights challenged, perhaps you might understand a little better how important it is to have someone fighting with you and for you. There are too many laws on the books that should reflect fair practicing for all of us, and don't. Therefore, people who have taken the time to study that law, and challenge it, and have backing from others who are official, will boldly step out in the frontline to lend their hand and abilities and their lives (i.e. Dr. King, his mom, his dad, the four little girls who were bombed in a church, the Kennedy's, Till, Edgers, and many, many others who have sacrificed their lives to change) to the 'man without education' to make sure he has access to the information'. Remember, there was a time that our southern society had its own "Jim Crow" laws (can't teach blacks to read, don't look at or speak to white women or die (i.e. Emmitt Till), even though you have the right to vote - if you can't count the number of M&M's in this jar and recite the alphabet backwards, you can't vote..oh yes - voting really became legal in the 60's -but was on the books for many, many years.)

Listen ya'll - we need everyone! We need education to help us all deal with the negatives and positives in this world and those issues that are in our minds - many of them stereotypes. Love is the answer - the only way. Because love does not recognize - race, creed or color - it recognizes - need.

Exactly. Accomplishments feed happiness. Handouts kill the pursuit of that happiness.

That's usually the game plan... plus Dems develop a southern accent to "relate" to them more.

But if you hand out to those in need, and they become dependant upon you. Don't you broaden your voter base.

Hmmm.

Funny, republicans don't feel that way about corporate welfare.
