Ok, Im trying to fix a linxsys wireless router and its not working. The person I'm trying to fix it for had a blackout and it stoped working. They have a desktop which is phyically hooked up and a laptop. When I plug the computer directly into the modem it works, when I hook up the router I can access the linksys but not the internet, I backed up the configuration settings and tried a hard reset. All firewalls are off. HELP!!!

If the modem incorporates NAT it will have to be bridged. Contact your ISP for help on this, or look up your modem's model on the Internet (of course, with only the modem itself plugged in).

Also, your ISP doesn't recognize the router's MAC address as a piece of equipment in your profile.

First, with the modem connected, go to the command prompt and type "ipconfig /release" then disconnect the modem from the Internet connection but leave it connected to the computer.
Second, access the modem and bridge it.
Third, connect the router then go back to the command prompt and type "ipconfig /renew".

Ideally, you should be connected at that point.

Turn EVERYTHING off, then turn the cable modem on. Then after the modem is up and running a couple of minutes, turn the router on, then lastly after everything else is running turn the pc back on. You probably lost the IP address and just need to get it back.

hmmm... okay... try this...
- reset the modem
- access the linksys and set it to a PPPoE connection type, and put in the internet username and password
- save the settings
- try surfing...

assuming that what you're working on is a PPPoE internet connection, this should work. you can connect to the internet through the modem because PPPoE connection is active on the modem. resetting it should disable it. then activate PPPoE on the linksys. that oughtta do the trick!

hope this helps.
