We just changed the plugs and wires. The service light is on. A diagnostic test said it is a random misfire. What could be causing this?

since you have already done a diagnostic. Re-do the diagnostic scan and it should tell you the cylinder is affected by the misfire 0301@ #1 cylinder 0302 @ #2 cylinder up to 0306. Now a misfire can be caused be a damaged spark plus (cracked porclein) ,bad wires, poor coil output, or a bad injector, last also after locating the cylinder make sure you do not have a a vacuum leak .....good luck

Does the motor have a misfire now or did the plug wires and spark plugs repair a misfire? If you have repaired the miss, either get the code erased or just keep driving and the computer will reset after it passes the code a couple of times. If you still have a misfire you have to determine which cylinder acts up. This is pretty easy to do with a scanner. If you don't have one, you have to short out one cylinder at a time by grounding the plug wire. The one that doesn't make a difference is the culprit. Check for spark output at the plug end, sometimes coils get corroded or module goes faulty to one coil assembly. You could also have a bad injector or an injector that is dirty and needs a pressure flush or the injection system. You will have to go through the whole diagnosis thing again. Good luck.

Try purchasing some dielectric grease and put some on each spark plug insulator. That may fix it.
