Sadly, there is no 'it's own' in England. We just look after everyone else. Perhaps if we had an English government things might have been different but I doubt it.

You can under stand Sceptics point though can't you?,
When Gordon Brown, told all those in private pension schemes to save for their old age and then knowing full well the outcome, taxed the pension providers to cause thousands of pension
schemes to go bust, so, effectivly destrying the private pension industry. He did the pensioners a favour and made sure they would have to work a few more years longer with half the pension they should have had.
And of course he has made sure there is no life boat and only last week New Labour voted again not to provide a life boat.
But wait a minuet Sceptic, your right, that asian bank that has fruadently gone bust andt all those asians that were saving into it( of course not Native Britains) and who put millions of british pounds into to be sent back to Pakistan to their fammilies and buisneses back home. Of course Gordon's got no choice but to reinburse the money after all the pensioners can go and jump over a cliff can't they.
This country is not the worlds concience and should not put others before its own.
The flood victims will probably not get a penny from the insurance companies but in my opinion are every bit entitled to help. After all Its the goverment that has lifted the restrictions to build on flood plains so its the goverment should help when there is a flood.

What really pisses me off is that we need to have a public whip round. With the amount of bloody tax we all pay the coffers should be overflowing.

You're right!
Let's raise a fighting fund to buy a new 32" flatscreen TV for a family in Gloucester, and tell those starving in Africa, or children dying for the want of £5 worth of medicine to piss right off.
Wait! News just in, your donations can replace the laptop computer for a teenager in Upton-on-Severn.
Actually (in case you hadn't spotted it - really, some people DO need this pointing out to them), I'm being sarcastic.
Distressing though the flooding is, people have lost possessions, mostly (on a worldwide scale) luxury ones, mostly insured losses.
In choosing who to help with my spare cash, who is in greater need - a family in Worcester who have to move in with relatives for a few weeks or a family in Sudan who have no food? And does the fact that some are British, and some aren't really matter?

it would be nice but we're too busy organising crap concerts for "worthwhile" causes to notice that we're sinking , it's just ironic that we are always first for handing out money to other countries but we can't even get water or electricity to our own and our new prime minister is just floating up and down meeting people , he truly is a man of action !
