if it ended TODAY, and the teams continued to play as they have been lately with their current players on the DL still on the DL, I would pick the Tigers to beat the Padres. Boston has been slumping lately and detroit looks stronger then the other 2 teams. The mets have been struggling immensly lately and Milwaukee's on the downslide. The dodgers are good but the padres pitching is just too dominant. But again- the tigers could beat them I believe.
I'm a yankee fan and i still believe they'll make it in the end- but if it was today- I'd pick detroit

San Diego (as long as they add a bat to their lineup) would defeat LA Angels in a six game series. Detroit would be out-hustled in the ALCS and NY gets upset in the NLDS- and the team with the best pitching in baseball wins the ring

Detroit over the Mets -- if ended today.

(and I'm a Yankees fan!!)

Although I really LIKE the Angels pitching in a short-series... it wouldn't get them passed the Tigers (in theory). Cleveland or LA could upset the Red Sox, who run hot & cold and Manny/Papi just aren't producing like normally.. Lowell will only get you so far, in the postseason. In the NL -- the Mets have shown they can beat anyone (that doesn't have Carpenter & Suppan) and while San Diego can be tough, Peavy's not right (you said, "today").

Detroit's come close, as have the Mets. Detroit's experience in the WS would push them over the top.

Considering that nobody picked the Cardinals to win last season, I'd take all these predictions with a grain of salt.

Betting on the baseball postseason is a losing proposition. Vegas loves baseball fans when the playoffs roll around.

I would have to say the Angels over Milwaukee. 4gms to 3gms. The Angels pitching is on fire and can't be stopped. But the Brewers are having a great season and could take the N.L. penent.
